Medical assistants and medical office professionals are expected to have good job prospects for the foreseeable future. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical office jobs are slated to grow 29 percent by the year 2026, much faster than the average for any other occupation.

As the baby-boomer generation ages and the demand for medical services intensifies, physicians will hire more assistants to perform routine administrative and clinical duties, so they are able to see more patients. In addition, hospitals are now opening up new satellite clinics and are in desperate need of more medical office professionals.

The Medical Assistant Program at Prospect College in Washington DC prepares students for entry-level positions in healthcare industry. Students who finish this program can work as front, or back office assistants. Also, we teach a wide variety of computer applications, Emergency and other medical skills such as, medical front office and insurance billing techniques. Our students will develop administrative skills including patient scheduling, obtaining and maintaining patient data, office bookkeeping, insurance billing, and automated office information management, as well as computerized patient billing.

Students at Prospect College will also learn essential patient care responsibilities, including vital signs, triage and CPR. Besides, after finishing the program, you will participate in a 170-hour externship to gain real workplace experience. Externship is also a good chance to get networking opportunities with a future employer. This externship experience will be an integral part of the program and is required for graduation.
